INTAS

INTAS, the International Association for the promotion of co-operation with scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union (NIS)1, was established in 1993 by the European Community and like-minded countries as an international not-for-profit association under Belgian law (AISBL), to promote scientific research activities in the NIS and scientific co-operation between scientists in these countries and the international scientific community.

INTAS’ objectives

INTAS’ objectives were achieved mainly by financing collaborative research projects, networks, grants to support innovation, fellowship grants for young scientists from EECA countries, support for scientific infrastructures, support to scientific conferences, summer schools and other training events. INTAS projects and activities covered both fundamental and applied research, in all fields of exact, natural, social and human sciences.

INTAS’ budget

INTAS’ budget of Euro 245,1 million in the period 1993-2006 has been devoted to scientific activities of mutual benefit to the member states and the NIS partner countries. 3,301 funded projects have brought together 18,795 teams of researchers; 1,389 fellowships have been awarded to young NIS scientists, involving research and training visits at European institutes; 68 summer schools have been enabled to increase the participation of young researchers from the NIS; 281 scientific conferences have been supported; 33 infrastructure actions have been funded; 49 innovation grants have been awarded.

Over the FP6 period INTAS launched 58 calls: 21 calls for Research Projects and Networks, 15 calls for Young Scientists Fellowships, 4 calls for Innovation Grants and 18 calls for Accompanying Measures. Detailed results can be found under Call Results (FP6).
